Union Meeting 3/11/2007

In attendence: Jessica Lynam, Josh Muia, Jason Trowbridge, Chris Pomeroy, Lisa Horton, Keith Russo, F. Michael Ciletti, Michelle Erwin, Elise Boneau, Micah Erwin, Tim Duby, Dan Kueh, Brendan Weaver, and Meghan Cook.

1. Minutes and Agenda: Minutes unavailable for approval

2. Updates: Jason and Chris reported that they went to visit with GEO on Saturday, and from that Jason requested that everone relate to the group what they did over Spring Break and why they got involved in the union.

a. Bargaining: Jason related that the last meeting had been frustrating because the administration tried to stifle a non-descrimination policy that we had taken from the Board oF Trustees policy statement. He requested that the union member find out 1) The number of people in eacc department who teach or assist, but who and not seeking a degree and 2) the number of people working for a department but who were not seeking a degree in that field.

b. Organizing: The General Membership Meeting will be held March 30th, 5:30pm in Bernhard 157. We will also be organizing Parview campus either March 16th or 23rd, likely at both 11am and 2pm. We will need volunteers to help with this event.

Jason also encouraged the group to remind members to support the Bargaining Team backup,and to wear thier TAU buttons on Thursdays.

3. Upcoming Events/Activities

a. Individuals volunteered to distribute the newslatter to various departments on campus.

b. The stewards agreed to change the name of the regular Sunday meeting from "Stewards Council" to "Union Meeting."

Keith Russo motioned to encourage buttons to be worn every day until the contract is signed, with Thursday's still emphasized as the most important day. The motion was so passed.

Chris Pomeroy motioned that the March 23rd Union Meeting be extended so as to facilitate a phone-bank activity in preparation for the Membership Meeting. The motion was so passed with one dissenting vote.

Jason motioned for an offical vote on changing the name of the regular Sunday meetings to be changed from "Stewards Council" or "Stewards Meeting" to "Union Meeting" to encourage participation. The motion was so passed.
